Stevens Wi-Fi Services
Stevens provides four types of wireless networks for faculty, staff, students, alumni and visitors to join: Stevens-Net (students, faculty and staff) Stevens-Guest (all campus visitors) Stevens-IoT (devices like smart TVs) Eduroam (faculty and staff visiting participating Eduroam universities) Stevens-Connect should only be used when downloading the SecureW2 certificate before joining Stevens-Net. Connecting to Stevens-Net Stevens-Net offers secure access to all local Stevens resources and is available campus-wide for all students, faculty, and staff. A valid email address is required to gain access. Limitations will be applied to bandwidth and web-surfing. Registration for devices on this network must be renewed daily. Typical devices are personal devices including gaming consoles, smart-TVs and media devices. How to Connect to Stevens-Net on Windows Devices
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Net, the Wi-Fi network on campus for Windows computers. Before you start For best Wi-Fi connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of Windows Operating System. Step 1: Select Stevens-Connect from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device, a portal will pop-up automatically. If it does not visit stevens.edu/connect. If you are located off-campus and want to set up your Wi-Fi connection to Stevens-Net in advance, visit stevens.edu/connect to download the SecureW2 application (Step 3). Select Allow if you receive a download warning. Step 2: Ensure that the 'Select your device' drop down shows the correct Operating System (i.e. Windows 10), then select Join Now. Step 3: When prompted download the SecureW2 application and select Save and then open the file that was downloaded. Step 4: Select Run when receiving the warning prompt about SmartScreen. Step 5: Select yes on the (UAC-User Account Control) prompt for authentication. Step 6: Enter your Stevens username and password to authenticate with Single Sign-On and select Sign In. Step 7: In the SecureW2 application it will say 'Joined' once the Wireless Configuration is complete, select Done. Step 8: If you are on-campus you should be connected to Stevens-Net. How to Connect to Stevens-Net on Mac Devices
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Net, the Wi-Fi network on campus for Mac computers. Before you start For best Wi-Fi connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of Mac Operating System (OS), Big Sur. Step 1: Select Stevens-Connect from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device, a portal will pop-up automatically. If it does not visit stevens.edu/connect using the Safari browser. If you are located off-campus and want to set up your Wi-Fi connection to Stevens-Net in advance, visit stevens.edu/connect to download the SecureW2 application (Step 3). Select Allow if you receive a download warning. Step 2: Ensure that the 'Select your device' drop down shows the correct Operating System (i.e. Catalina & Above), then select Join Now. Step 3: When prompted download the SecureW2 application. Open your Downloads folder and open the "WiFi_JoinNow_Wrapper.dmg" application. If the option appears, open the file using "DiskImageMounter (Default)" and select OK. Step 4: On the SecureW2 application, select Next to prompt authentication. Step 5: Enter your Stevens username and password to authenticate with Single Sign-On (SSO) and select Sign In. Step 6: After authentication, the SecureW2 application will ask for permission to make changes to your device. Enter your Mac computer's username and password then select OK, this may occur up to 3 times. Step 7: SecureW2 will download the Wi-Fi profile to your Mac, select Next. Step 8: Your Mac's Profiles Menu should open automatically after a brief delay, select Install to begin installing the Wi-Fi profile to your device. Step 9: When prompted select Install to confirm the Wi-Fi profile installation. Step 10: You may be prompted to access your keychain, enter your Mac password and select Always Allow. Step 11: In the SecureW2 application it will say 'Joined' once the Wireless Configuration is complete, select Done. Step 12: If you are on-campus you should be connected to Stevens-Net. How to Connect to Stevens-Net on Linux/Unix Devices
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Net, the Wi-Fi network on campus for Linux/Unix computers. Before you start Some devices running Linux/Unix may need to be configured manually to connect to the Stevens-Net network. For best Wi-Fi connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of Linux/Unix Operating System. Step 1: Select Stevens-Connect from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device, a portal will pop-up automatically. If it does not visit stevens.edu/connect. Step 2: Ensure that the 'Select your device' drop down shows the correct Operating System, then select Join Now. Step 3: When prompted download the SecureW2 application called "SecureW2_JoinNow.run". Select the Save File option then select OK. The file will begin downloading. Step 4: Open the Terminal application and navigate to the Downloads folder by typing in "cd Downloads" and press Enter. Step 5: Once on the proper folder, type in "sh SecureW2_JoinNow.run" and press Enter to run the script file. Step 6: Press Enter to be prompted to authenticate. Enter your Stevens username and password to authenticate with Single Sign-On (SSO) and select Sign In. Step 7: Once you have authenticated, the script will continue and complete the installation process. Step 8: Once the script is finished, your device should automatically connect to Stevens-Net. How to Connect to Stevens-Net on iOS (iPhone/iPad) Devices
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Net, the Wi-Fi network on campus for iOS devices. Before you start For best Wi-Fi connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of iOS. Step 1: Open a Web browser (preferably Safari), type in https://stevens.edu/connect Select Sign In Step 2: On the Single Sign-On Authentication prompt please enter your Stevens username & password. Step 3: Follow Okta prompts to complete login. Step 4: Download the Stevens-Net certificate. Select Install. - If you are using the latest version of iOS then you will be prompted to download the profile. - Select Allow and Close all the pop-ups Step 5: To install the profile you downloaded go to the Setting App. Step 6: Click Profile Downloaded Step 7: Install the Profile. Step 8: A Root Certificate Installation Warning will display. Select Install Step 9: Select Done Step 10: After the certificate is installed, join the Stevens-Net network. How to Connect to Stevens-Net on Android Devices
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Net, the Wi-Fi network on campus for Android devices. Before you start For best Wi-Fi connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of your Android Operating System. Note: Due to variability in Android operating systems the process of on-boarding devices via Stevens-Connect may present some difficulties. If this is the case, it is recommended to download the SecureW2 app using your cellular connection. Step 1: While in the Play Store, search and install the SecureW2 JoinNow app. Step 2: Open a web browser and search for stevens.edu/connect or Stevens Institute of Technology-Stevens_Net | Powered by SecureW2 Step 3: Click on Join Now, another window will pop up to enter Stevens credentials. Step 4: Enter your Stevens username and password to authenticate with Single Sign-On (SSO) and select Sign In. Step 5: Follow Okta prompts to complete login. Step 6: When the screen labeled, "You are going to see this notification next" appears, select Next. Note: if the "Allow suggested Wi-Fi networks?" appears, select Save/Allow, and then Next. Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection to Stevens-Net on Windows Devices
The following step-by-step instructions will help you troubleshoot connections issues with the Stevens-Net WiFi that are caused by out-of-sync certificate. Before you start Ensure that your computer is configured to automatically Join Stevens-Net. Step 1: From the Start menu, open Settings. Then navigate to Network & Internet > Wi-Fi. Step 2: Click Manage known networks. Step 3: In the list of known Wi-Fi networks, you should see Stevens-Net, with the note Added by company policy. Please take note as to whether or not you see this network and note, as it will help in further troubleshooting. Remove and Re-Sync the Network Certificate Step 1: Right-click the Windows icon (Start menu button) in your taskbar. Step 2: Click Run. Step 3: Enter certmgr.msc Step 4: Expand Personal on the left sidebar, then click Certificates. Step 5: Look for the certificate issued to Your Name and issued by Stevens Institute of Technology Device Intermediate CA (it may also be issued by SecureW2). Step 6: Right-click on that certificate, then select Delete to remove it from your machine. Step 7: From the Start menu, open Settings. Then, go to Accounts > Access Work or School. Step 8: Click on Connected to stevens.edu's Azure AD, then click Info. If you do not see this, click the item that contains "MDM" in the name, and then click Info. Step 9: Scroll down, and under Device sync status click the Sync button. Wait until you see "The sync was successful" and the current time is displayed. Step 10: Once the sync completes, close Settings and try connecting to the Stevens-Net Wi-Fi network. Experiencing an issue or need additional support? How to Connect to Stevens-IoT
Stevens-IoT Network is designed to connect Smart TVs, Gaming Consoles, and other devices that are unable to authenticate to Stevens-Net. Note: All computers should be connected to Stevens-Net. Some wireless devices, such as Amazon Echos, Google Homes, and other smart devices need to be paired with smart-phones or computers to function properly. To pair with a device on Stevens-IoT, a computer or smart-phone must be connected to Stevens-IoT using the same password as the smart device. Stevens-IoT network requires the use of a Private Pre-shared Key (PPSK) which is referred to by some devices as a password. The same PPSK will be used with each of your devices that are connected to Stevens-IoT. These PPSKs are unique and should not be shared. Treat it as you would any other password. Before you Start Connecting to the Stevens-IoT Network You will need a Private Pre-shared Key (PPSK) in order to connect to the Stevens-IoT network. To obtain a PPSK (referred to by some devices as Network Security Key or password), please complete the request form. Please be aware that if you've already completed this process and have forgotten your Wi-Fi password, you must email support@stevens.edu or open a support ticket. Step 1: Select the Stevens-IoT Wi-Fi network from your device and select Connect Step 2: Next, enter the PPSK (referred to by some devices as Network Security Key or password) you requested and select Next Step 3: You will be connected to Stevens-IoT Experiencing an issue or need additional support? How to Connect to Stevens-Guest
Step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Stevens-Guest, the Wi-Fi network for on campus guests. Before you start When on campus, guests are required to self-register with an e-mail address. Once a guest is connected to Stevens-Guest they will have Basic Internet connectivity 10MB Bandwidth Note: Registration on the Stevens-Guest WiFi requires daily renewal. Any and all malicious content is blocked. Step 1: Select the Stevens-Guest Wi-Fi network from your device and select Connect. (The image below is Windows, Available Wifi Networks may look different depending on the OS of your device) Step 2: Open your web browser and a Secure Internet Portal should appear. Enter your First Name, Last Name, and Email address then select the Register button at the bottom. Step 3: The Secure Internet Portal will process your request. At the completion of the request, the following screen will be displayed. Step 4: After the "Login Successful" screen appears in your web browser, you will be connected to the Stevens-Guest Wi-Fi network. Note: If you disconnect and then reconnect to the Stevens-Guest network, you may need to re-register. Step 1: Visit https://stevens.edu/eduroam. Select Allow if you receive a download warning. Step 2: Ensure that the 'Select your device' drop down shows the correct Operating System (i.e. Windows 10), then select Join Now. Step 3: When prompted download the SecureW2 application and select Save and then open the file that was downloaded. Step 4: Select Run when receiving the warning prompt about SmartScreen.
