What is Poll Everywhere? Poll Everywhere is an online polling platform that allows participants and students to vote on custom polls ─ including multiple choice and free response questions ─ in real time. Presenters can use this tool to engage participants and students in an interactive environment, take attendance, administer quizzes, or gauge understanding. Poll Everywhere is connected to Canvas, so instructors can import their course roster and then directly export grades from a poll to the gradebook. Poll Everywhere's New Course Management Feature On January 6, 2025, Poll Everywhere launched a new Course Management workflow as part of its LTI integration with Canvas. This new feature is designed to streamline your course management tasks and enhance your teaching experience. How to Access Poll Everywhere To access Poll Everywhere for the first time, visit the Stevens Poll Everywhere login page. You will need to authenticate using your Stevens credentials. Connecting Your Canvas Course to Poll Everywhere Using Modules (5:31) A short video describing how to sync the Canvas course roster with Poll Everywhere in order to collect student responses and seamlessly transfer grades and participation data back to the Canvas gradebook. Connecting your Canvas course to Poll Everywhere using modules Step 1: Go to the course that you wish to connect with Poll Everywhere and click the ‘+ Module’ button. Name the module whatever you like in the subsequent popup window, then click the ‘Add Module’ button to save Step 2: Within your new module, click the ‘+’ button. From the dropdown menu at the top of the popup window, select ‘External Tool’, then select Poll Everywhere. URL and Page Name fields will auto-populate below. Lastly, check the ‘Load in a new tab’ checkbox to and click ‘Add Item’ to save. Step 3: Now, click on the new Poll Everywhere link that you made within the module. You will see a ‘Load Poll Everywhere in a new window’ button. Click this button to launch the Poll Everywhere connection. Step 4: In the new tab, you will be asked to acknowledge you are launching Poll Everywhere through Canvas. Acknowledge the launch. On the next page, you will see a button to Sync Roster to import the students from your course into Poll Everywhere. Step 5: After you click this button, a page will inform you that the participant import is proceeding, and you will see a ‘Go to Participants page’ button. Click the button. Once on the participants page, you will be able to verify that the import took place because there will be a new group named after your course. Step 6: Now that you have connected your course to Poll Everywhere, you can delete the module you used to make the connection. What is Poll Everywhere? Poll Everywhere is a web and SMS text-messaging student response system. During class, instructors (presenters) display a Poll Everywhere activity on-screen and students (participants) respond with their devices. The results appear live on the screen for the class to discuss or for the instructor to grade. Instructors can use Poll Everywhere to take attendance, give quizzes in classes, find out how well the class has understood a lesson, and generally make learning more active and students more involved. How to Use Poll Everywhere To begin accessing Poll Everywhere Visit my.stevens.edu and click Poll Everywhere or the Stevens Poll Everywhere login page. Authenticate using your Stevens credentials via SSO (single sign-on). When your email address is added, the Next button will automatically switch to Log in with Stevens Institute of Technology. On January 6, 2025, Poll Everywhere launched a new Course Management workflow as part of its LTI integration with Canvas. This new feature is designed to streamline your course management tasks and enhance your teaching experience. What to Expect The Course Management feature simplifies how you use polling in your classes and improves the process of synchronizing grade data with Canvas. With the new feature, you will be able to Seamlessly integrate Poll Everywhere with Canvas for a smoother workflow Select flexible grading options: assignments can be scored based on correctness or participation, with grades syncing directly to Canvas Enjoy a more intuitive and easy-to-use interface To access Course Management, presenters who have synced at least one course via the LTI integration will now see a banner when navigating to an individual course in Poll Everywhere. This banner allows them to try out the Course Management experience throughout the Spring 2025 semester, with the flexibility to return to the existing experience if needed. Important Dates Instructors have the opportunity to begin using the new Course Management workflow starting on January 6, 2025. Poll Everywhere will continue to support the current legacy workflow through the end of Spring 2025 semester, so instructors may continue using the legacy workflow until the end of Spring 2025. Instructors will have the option to try the new Course Management workflow and, if desired, revert to the legacy workflow through the end of the Spring 2025 semester. After Spring 2025, the legacy workflow will no longer be supported by Poll Everywhere. OneIT will continue to share additional information on the new workflow in preparation for and after launch.
