Troubleshooting Global Protect VPN
Learn about common troubleshooting tips for connecting to the Global Protect VPN. Confirm your Stevens password Please make sure that you are using the correct password. If you are not sure of your password, you can set a new one at https://www.stevens.edu/password. Trying to log onto the Global Protect VPN on a Mac and it is stuck at "Connecting....its working" You have installed the Global Protect client for Mac and entered your username and password. If you are a faculty/staff member, it should prompt you for OKTA authentication. The client tries to connect, but it says, "Connecting....its still working" and never completes authentication. Please make sure that you are follow the steps as outlined at https://knowledgebase.paloaltonetworks.com/KCSArticleDetail?id=kA10g000000boQ9CAI. Note: You may not see this step in newer versions of the Global Protect installer. Cannot install Global Protect VPN on a Windows machine Users with a Windows 10 machine may see an installation error message when installing the Global Protect VPN client, as shown below. To fix this issue, please click on the link below to install the Visual C++ package (English-US version). Afterwards, please reboot and then try to run the install for Global Protect VPN again. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3138367/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package When trying to connect to VPN, error shows that you cannot connect to Global Protect gateway Users who experience any issue connecting to the Global Protect VPN may see an error message indicating that they cannot connect to the Global Protect gateway, as shown below. To resolve this issue, click on the 3 dashes in the top right-hand corner of this window and choose Settings. Click on the General tab and then click Sign Out. Reboot your computer and then try to connect to the Global Protect VPN again. How to Get Troubleshooting Logs from the Global Protect Client for Support Windows Step 1: Right click on the Global Protect VPN icon and click on Settings. Step 2: Click on Connection. Your VPN IP address is now visible. (* helpful tip to get your IP address when using the Global Protect VPN.) Step 3: Click on the Connection tab and view your IP address used while logged onto the Global Protect VPN. Step 4: Click on the Troubleshooting tab and various logs can be collected for troubleshooting issues. You can now upload these logs to a ticket for additional support. Mac Step 1: Click on the Global Protect VPN icon on the top of the home screen and click on the gear then select Settings. Step 2: A new window will pop up. Go to the Troubleshooting tab and click the Collect Logs button. Step 3: The collected logs will be saved. Click Open in Folder to navigate to the file. Step-by-step instructions to connect to the Global Protect client from Palo Alto, a state-of-the-art VPN client for secure access to Stevens network resources on Linux. Before you start For best connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of Linux. Please note that as you use this client, the default settings will route all internet traffic through Stevens. Global Protect VPN require multi-factor authentication using Okta. The installation process requires administrative permissions. Faculty & Staff - VPN access has been provided to All Faculty and Staff. There is no need to submit a support ticket requesting access. Students - If you are working for a faculty member and need VPN to access on-campus resources, you must first submit a support ticket requesting access and your faculty member must update the support ticket approving your request before access can be granted. Connection Instructions Note: These instructions for installing the Global Protect VPN Linux client are based upon Ubuntu version 22.04 Step 1: Download CLI version of the GlobalProtect VPN Client. The archive with the GlobalProtect VPN client for Linux is attached to this article. Please, navigate to the bottom of this page and left-click on the file PanGPLinux-6.1.1-c4.zip. Save it on the local drive. Step 2: Extract the file PanGPLinux-6.1.1-c4.zip, navigate to the folder where you saved the archive with GlobalProtect VPN client and extract it by executing the following command: Step 3: Install GlobalProtect VPN Client package by running the command below Step 4: Check the current status of the GlobalProtect VPN Step 5: Connect to Stevens VPN Experiencing an issue or need additional support? Before you start For best connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of your OS X Operating System. Please note that as you use this client, the default settings will route all internet traffic through Stevens. Please note that the Global Protect VPN will require multi-factor authentication using Okta. FACULTY & STAFF - VPN access has been provided to All Faculty and Staff. There is no need to submit a support ticket requesting access. STUDENTS - If you are working for a faculty member and need VPN to access on-campus resources, you must first submit a support ticket requesting access and your faculty member must update the support ticket approving your request before access can be granted. Connection Instructions Step 1: Download the file for the Mac Global Protect client onto your computer from this article and save to your computer. Step 2: Click on the file and a wizard will open. Click Continue. Step 3: Check the box for GlobalProtect and then click Continue. Step 4: Now click Install. Step 5: You may be prompted for your Mac administrator username and password. Step 6: If prompted, open Security Preferences and allow the application. Note: Look for the system popup below to access the required settings. Step 7: The installation is now complete. Click Close. Step 8: In the Portal Address field, enter sitvpn.stevens.edu and click Connect. Step 9: Enter your Stevens username and password. Step 10: Select your preferred option for OKTA - either enter 1 to send an Okta push to your smartphone, or open the Okta app on your smartphone for the passcode to be entered. Click Sign In. Before you start For best connectivity, we recommend that you install the latest version of your Windows Operating System. Please note that as you use this client, the default settings will route all internet traffic through Stevens. Global Protect VPN require multi-factor authentication using Okta. FACULTY & STAFF - VPN access has been provided to All Faculty and Staff. There is no need to submit a support ticket requesting access. STUDENTS - If you are working for a faculty member and need VPN to access on-campus resources, you must first submit a support ticket requesting access and your faculty member must update the support ticket approving your request before access can be granted. Connection Instructions Step 1: Download the Windows Global Protect client onto your computer from this article and save to your computer. Step 2: Double click on the MSI file Step 3: A wizard will open. Click Next. Step 4: Click Next to install in the default folder path, or choose an alternative location to install the client and click Next. Step 5: Click Next to complete installation. Step 6: If you are prompted that a driver needs to be installed on your computer, click Yes. If this does not appear, then continue and click Close after the wizard completes. Step 7: You should now see a new Global Protect pop-up box that appears near the bottom right hand side of the screen. Step 8: Type sitvpn.stevens.edu as the portal address and click Connect. Step 9: Enter your Stevens username and password, then click Sign In. Step 10: Select your preferred option for OKTA - either enter 1 to send an Okta push to your smartphone, or open the Okta app on your smartphone for the passcode to be entered. Click Sign In. Step 11: You are now connected to the Stevens VPN. Click Disconnect when you are finished and need to log off of the Stevens VPN client. Experiencing an issue or need additional support? Step 1: Open the Android Play Store App on an Android device. Search for Global Protect. Step 2: You should see the application, GlobalProtect listed. Click Install to download the Global Protect app. Step 3: Enter your Android play store login credentials. Step 4: Enter the portal address, sitvpn.stevens.edu and click Connect. Step 5: Enter your Stevens username and password. Click SIGN IN Step 5: Select your preferred option for OKTA - either enter 1 to send an Okta push to your smartphone, or open the Okta app on your smartphone for the passcode to be entered. Click Continue. Step 6. You will see a pop-up message indicating that GlobalProtect would like to add a VPN Connection to your Android device. Click OK. Step 7. STUDENTS - If you are working for a faculty member and need VPN to access on-campus resources, you must first submit a support ticket requesting access and your faculty member must update the support ticket approving your request before access can be granted. Step 1: Open the App Store and search for Global Protect. Click GET to install the app. Step 2: After the app is installed, open the app. You may see a pop-up asking for permission for GlobalProtect to send you notifications. Click Allow or Disallow. Step 3: Enter the portal address, sitvpn.stevens.edu and click Connect. Step 4: You will see a pop-up message indicating that GlobalProtect would like to add VPN configurations to your iOS device. Click Allow. Step 5: You will now be prompted to enter your iOS device passcode. Step 6: Enter your Stevens username and password. Click Sign In. Please note that the Global Protect VPN will require multi-factor authentication using Okta. Step 7: Select your preferred option for OKTA - either enter 1 to send an Okta push to your smartphone, or open the Okta app on your smartphone for the passcode to be entered. The Global Protect client from Palo Alto is a state-of-the-art VPN client for secure access to Stevens network resources. VPN access is automatically granted to faculty and staff, and can be granted to students working for faculty members. Students must submit a request and be approved by a faculty member to be granted VPN access.
