The following specifications and best practices are recommended for Faculty teaching remotely.
System Requirements and Best Practices
Zoom
Best Practices
- Install Zoom Desktop Client, which offers the best available Zoom experience
- Wired broadband connection is recommended
- Headset with microphone is recommended
- Turning on your webcam video during class is recommended, if possible
System Requirements
- An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
- Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
- A webcam or HD webcam – built-in or USB plug-in, or an HD cam or HD camcorder with video capture card
- Linux requires a processor or graphics card that can support OpenGL 2.0 or higher
Canvas

- JavaScript must be enabled

Zoom
- Windows: IE 11+, Edge 12+, Firefox 27+, Chrome 30+
Note: Some features in the Zoom web client are not supported on IE.
- Mac: Safari 7+, Firefox 27+, Chrome 30+
- Linux: Firefox 27+,
Canvas
Best Practices
- You are highly encouraged to use Chrome, Safari, or Firefox for the best user experience.
- You should always use the most current version of your preferred browser.

Bandwidth Requirements
Zoom
- Wired broadband connection is recommended
- 800kbps/1.0Mbps (up/down) for high quality video
- For gallery view and/or 720p HD video: 1.5Mbps/1.5Mbps (up/down)
- Receiving 1080p HD video requires 2.5mbps (up/down)
- Sending 1080p HD video requires 3.0 Mbps (up/down)
