Installing LabView
Learn how to install LabView on Windows and Mac, and how to configure the LabView license server.
Note: To access LabView off campus you must connect to the Stevens VPN first.
Windows
Step 1: Open https://software.stevens.edu and click on Windows Software at the top menu bar. Scroll down and click on the LabView folder
Step 2: You will see versions for 2014, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023 listed. Click Download to download the specific folder to your computer. If you are unsure of which version to use, please check with your professor on which version they are teaching for your specific course
Step 3: Navigate to your Downloads folder, unzip the contents of the 2023 folder, and double-click on the ni-software-platform-bundle_23.0_suite_online file to begin installation.
Step 4: Press Yes, for the installer to open.
Step 5: In the Software Platform Bundle phase leave selections as is, do not select anymore options.
Step 6: Click Deselect All. Press Next.
Step 7: Check I accept the above License Agreements. Press Next.
Step 8: Ensure Always trust software from “National Instruments Corporation” is selected. Press Install.
Step 9: Click Create a user account if you do not have an NI account or click Log in to Activate if you have an account already.
Step 10: Once logged in click on the down arrow and select Connect to a volume license server. In the textbox below type lm1server.campus.stevens-tech.edu and press Connect
Step 11: You will get Unable to complete activation. Press Close.
Step 12: Click Reboot Now. If it does not prompt you to reboot just close the pop up screen and manually reboot your computer.
Step 13: After reboot search for LabView in your Taskbar. Select NI LabView 2023 Q1 (64-bit)
Step 14: LabView has been successfully installed. You can create a project or open existing.
Install LabView on Mac OS
Step 1: Open https://software.stevens.edu and click on Mac Software at the top menu bar. Scroll down and click on the LabView folder
Step 2: You will see versions for 2014, 2018, and 2020 listed. Click Download to download the specific folder to your computer. If you are unsure of which version to use, please check with your professor on which version they are teaching for your specific course. In this example we are using LabView2020
Step 3: Navigate to your Downloads folder and double-click on the LabView2020Eval.dmg file to begin installation
Step 4: The installer will open. Double click on the icon on the left that says LabVIEW2020 Evaluation 64-bit
Step 5: You will receive the following error. Select OK
Step 6. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General and select the Open Anyway at the bottom right of the screen for the evaluation to continue
Step 7: Click Continue to begin with the installation process
Step 8: Click Continue until you reach the Installation Section and then select Install
Step 9: The installation process is complete. Click Done to exit the installer
Configuring the LabView License Server
Step 1: On your computer, click on Start in the bottom left. Select All Programs and click on National Instruments. Select NI License Manager
Step 2: In the NI License Manager window select the Options tab in the top left and then select Preferences
Step 3: A Preferences window should appear. Check off the box next to Use Network License Servers. In the blank text box enter lm1server.campus.stevens-tech.edu. Select OK
Issues Accessing the License Server
Modifying the DNS suffix of your network connections may be required to access the campus license server. If you are experiencing issues accessing the campus license servers for LabView or other campus licensed software packages, please follow the steps provided below.
Step 1: In Windows select Start > Run and type control netconnections. Then click OK
Step 2: In the control panel network connections window that appears, select the active network interface. Right-click on it and select Properties
Step 3: In the Properties window select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties
Step 4: In the following window that appears titled Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties, click Advanced
Step 5: In the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window, click on the DNS tab
Step 6: In the DNS tab click the radio button that says Append these DNS suffixes (in order) and click Add to add each desired DNS suffix
Step 7: Add stevens.edu, stevens-tech.edu, campus.stevens-tech.edu. A reboot is not required
